This particular style of meditation is known as the householder technique and is designed for people who have got families, friends, challenging careers and who are fully integrated in society; for people who are totally engaged in life and looking for something to support that lifestyle.
The technique is a simple, natural, effortless process practiced for 20 minutes twice a day while sitting comfortably with the eyes closed.
During the 20 mins, the active mind settles down naturally to quieter and quieter levels of the thought process until the mind experiences the source of thought – the most settled, yet fully awake state of awareness. As the mind settles, the body follows, and is able to access a state of rest and relaxation that is, in many respects, deeper than the deepest part of deep sleep. This unique state of “restful alertness” eliminates stress, tension and fatigue and is the basis for increased creativity and intelligence, improved health and improved relationships - with yourself, your family and friends, your community and the world you live in.
The key to meditation being an effortless process is the use of a suitable mantra and correct instruction.
A mantra is a specific sound used as a vehicle for the effortless settling down of the mind to the experience of the source of thought, something we refer to as pure consciousness or bliss consciousness. The mantra has no meaning but is of a very specific sound quality, or resonance, that the mind finds intrinsically charming. When we use this technique the mind moves from the active, thought filled layers to the quieter, more subtle, peaceful layer until it reaches the most subtle level of thought. The mind then naturally lets go of the mantra and will actually move beyond, or transcend thinking, coming to a complete state of rest within itself.
When you learn to mediate you will receive your own mantra and then – equally important - you will learn how to use it properly to so that your mind and body effortlessly settle down to this profound state of restful alertness.
The practical value of exposing the mind to this quiet state is that the mind comes in contact with the source of all clarity, creativity, energy and intelligence and is then able to bring these qualities forward to be enjoyed throughout the day. The more regularly we access this state, the more readily we are able to bring these qualities into our daily life.
Once instructed correctly the technique can be practised anywhere – at home, in your office, on the bus or train on the way to work, on an aeroplane, anywhere!
This technique does not require any lifestyle changes, investment of large time commitments and is complimentary to all religions and philosophies.
Many who have tried other meditation practices and have not been able to "quieten” their mind, find that this practice does exactly that for them without effort, force or the need to concentrate.
The simple and tangible benefits gained from practicing this technique of meditation are enjoyed by millions of people around the world including mums, dads, kids, students, professionals and sports people.
